the ART of ME time

How do I get more “me time”? It’s always on my list and I never seem to get to it! I know I need it but how do I actually make it happen?

Many people who take painting classes at MBodied say that it’s their “me time”. Whether they planned it that way or not, 2 1/2 hours of painting and listening to music inevitably becomes a much-looked-forward-to me time.

Art is naturally centering and self-reflective. You sit down to paint and intrinsically start a dialogue with yourself, “what color should this be?” “what mood am I in?” “what do I want to share?” The essence of me time is a chance to check in with yourself, see how you’re doing and listen. That’s what happens when you paint.

Taking a class is a great way to ensure me time because you are committed, it's on your calendar and you’ve signed up! Somehow, when we put “me time” on our to-do list, it doesn’t get done. We push it to the end of the list each day and it never actually happens. (This, by the way, just ends up producing guilt for another thing not done). So trick yourself into getting me time by signing up for an art class that naturally produces centering, self-reflective me time.

“What if I can’t paint?!” you exclaim! That’s the fun of taking a class. It’s my job to teach you how to paint. Your job is to show up, willing to learn and touching into your child-self. That is the best way to enter a class. I will provide the calm environment, the structure and the guidance to help you feel supported in learning. You show up and spend time with yourself. Experiment, be playful, learn and enjoy expressing yourself just as you are!
